What maintenance & repair tasks do we need to do as we head into Fall?

As Summer comes to an end, it is time to get your house for Fall. There are many things inside and outside of your home that will need to be checked. Here is a checklist for your fall maintenance:

  • Check all your windows and doors to ensure they are not producing leaks. If so caulking or weatherstripping might solve the problem. Remove screen doors/windows and replace them with storm doors/windows.
  • Clean your gutters and inspect them to ensure they are draining properly. Also ensure your downspouts are clear of obstructions and draining away from foundations.
  • Winterize your air conditioning unit. If your home has central air conditioning, it may be necessary to cover your outdoor unit for the upcoming winter. If you use window air conditioning units, remove them or cover them to prevent air leaks.
  • Check the filters in your furnace and humidifiers, change them as needed.
  • Make sure to test home safety devices. It is a good idea to replace the batteries in all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide devices you have at home. Test them to make sure they’re working properly.
