Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆It all started with a storm door in need of repair and a subscription to Angie's List I received as a Christmas present. My very first call to Mr. Handyman was answered, I believe on the 1st ring, by Anne. A VERY good beginning and 1st impression. She voluntarily explained their employee vetting process without me having to ask…..a clear sign to me that this employer is proud of the employees and their skills. I was able to schedule Mr. Landis at a mutually convenient time to repair the storm door. He was a joy. Prompt, personable, skilled, quickly diagnosing the problem, and thorough in every way. During my initial conversation with Anne, I mentioned I had other items needing attention. She recommended I make a list and do a walk through while Mr. Landis was here which worked out perfectly. I e-mailed Anne the list; we e-mailed back and forth a time or 2, but when I had more questions unsuited to e-mail, she graciously agreed to make a phone appointment with me @ 7:30 one morning before I had to start seeing patients… again.. for me, it worked out perfectly and all my questions that could be answered @ that time were handled. Based on the pricing rates contained on the original invoice, which by the way was meticulous, we were very, very close in our cost estimates. Because of my work, I need long lead time to be away from my Clinic and arrange coverage. This first encounter was in Mid-March and I was able to schedule the additional work without difficulty for 2 consecutive days in the beginning of May. The day arrived after a confirmation phone call from Bruce, and so did Michael and Anne.. not only promptly, but early. We did a quick walk-through and they tackled Day 1. They brought a stunning work ethic not often seen these days; self-directed, internally driven, collegial and collaborative; truly mature, experienced and skilled professionals. My first priority was the dining room and as it turned out, it was "bigger than a breadbox" with much more extensive damage from birds nesting under the window a/c unit. Long story short… needed a new a/c unit, new sill, a new window, AND a creative solution to keep out more "nesters". They could have just 'told me that" and left it, but no… not only did we use my iPad to go on line to find the proper size unit recommended in Consumer Reports + the closest location for me to get it, but they also made several calls to find a vendor for the new (not "off the shelf") window, ordered it for me, had it delivered to them, and scheduled a 3rd day for installation. Let me give you another example….the stairway down the basement. I had a "small repair" to the ceiling listed; Anne took one look @ it and said "Oh… this needs to be fixed…" and so not only did she "fix" the ceiling, but stripped the tape from the drywall, scraped, re-taped and spackled it, but after it was dry and before she sanded it, she completely taped off the bottom of the stairs with floor to ceiling plastic drop cloths to protect the clothes stored there and put on 2 coats of paint! Day 2 proceeded apace + a bit more than the 8 hours for each of them. Did I mention that not one single moment of those days was wasted? Tasks were handled concurrently; there was no "disappearing" from the house…pretty much everything they expected to need was brought with them and at hand… no "oops…I have to go out to the truck." They were completely focused, disciplined, diligent multi-taskers and personally delightful to have in my home. Clean-up? meticulous; not a paint drop, not a wood chip; all the trash carefully bagged and taken outside for pick-up and after they vacuumed up the last speck, I'd be willing to say it was cleaner than when they arrived! Day 3 was a week later, again preceded by a confirmation call that the window was in and Mr. Landis would be coming the following morning. Same smooth, expert performance; old window OUT; new window IN including custom cut sill and fitting like a glove; old a/c OUT; new unit in, caulked, pitched perfectly, seams sealed and taped…no more BIRDS! and just in time for those 4, 90+ degree days we had. I could go on, but am running out of superlatives. I've shared my experiences of course, with family and friends, e-mailed fotos of before and after, and snail-mailed the "checklist" of available services not only to others here in NJ, but to Houston, LA and Seattle… even with my patients when they've asked "So how did it go???" This experience was like watching 2 executive chefs, working in concert, seamlessly preparing an elaborate, multicourse meal and having each offering come to the table perfectly prepared, exquisitely plated and ALL AT THE RIGHT TIME! It was amazing…………… Just a hint… they are VERY organized and so I'm glad I tried to be as well; made a list, did the walk-through, asked questions, planned ahead, elicited their recommendations and had purchased all the supplies I could to make the work go as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆I had called a number of Handymen – from different sources such as the local newspaper as well as the yellowpages. All of them promised to come by my house and review the problem but none did. Neither did any of them return my numerous calls over several days. As a last resort, I joined Angie's list and called Mr. HandyMan. And I only wish I had done this in the first place – it could've saved me a lot of frustration. Tom (the owner of Mr. HandyMan), answered my call personally instead of having me to leave a message with some answering service or machine. he also gave me a time when his technician would visit my house and followed up with another call half an hour before his visit. Such professionalism and service is extremely rare in this field. Anyways, when Michael, the technician arrived ( and he did so very promptly and at the time promised), he explained to me in detail how their pricing worked and also explained how I could make the most of his time for the rate structure. Very impressed by this disclosure. Most handymen would charge you by the job, regardless of how long it too them. A 5 minutes job could cost you a couple of hundred. Not so with Mr. Handymen. Mike explained to me that since i was going to billed $192 for the first hour and half anyways, I could include other and as many tasks I would like him to work on in that time frame. Must say, I had never encountered this kind of service before. Another thing that surprised and really impressed me was that anytime Michael stepped inside my house, he would put on plastic socks over his shoes so as not to track dirt and mud into my house. Normally, people who work on your house – plumbers, electricians etc who have to go in and out of your house will do so without giving a second thought about ruining your carpet or floor. Most Asian families do not wear shoes inside their homes. This is both a cultural thing as well as to keep the house clean. So, this gesture from Michael was really appreciated. Michael was very patient and understanding and answered all my questions. Will definitely look forward to working with Mr. Handymen in the future for all my home projects. Not being a handy person myself, I most certainly will have a lot of work for Mr. Handymen. As for my membership to Angie's list. I have to say the membership fees was absolutely worth every penny.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆They showed up on time and took precautions when the weather turned rainy and windy and finished the job completely. They made the extra effort to find a door to my specifications and to locate the plexi-glass panels needed to maintain the room's brightness. They did all this in a very timely fashion (rather quickly, actually!) They definitely work to a high standard of excellence. I highly recommend them to anyone requiring a larger than average job.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆I had used Mr. Handyman for some work around my house so when my elderly mother's live-in companion called with some repairs needed in her bathroom, I called them to help. It was a job that required a couple of days' work because of the tiling, and they could only give an estimate because they had to pull down tiles to see how much sheetrock was water damaged. But they tried to keep the price down wherever possible, saving the tiles to reuse, and only doing what was needed. The whole thing was a little complicated logistically because I arranged it all over the phone from work, with the Mr. Handyman office and the workers who went out there both for the estimate and the job dealing with my elderly (Alzheimer) mother, her companion who had to let them in and show them what was needed, and me on the phone with everyone. But with some patience, it all went well, and the work was done promptly.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars★ ★ ★ ★ ★☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆The person I spoke with over the phone told me the hourly rates, and based on my description of the repairs he gave me an estimate of how long he thought the job should take (this turned out to be pretty accurate). The actual work was done by Dean. There was a delay to start due to a personal emergency, but the office called promptly and kept me informed. After that everything went smoothly. There was one downspout which needed a part he did not have, so I paid for the work that was done that day. Dean returned two days later to finish the remaining work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Carpentry Services in Metuchen, NJ
For 30 years, Mr. Handyman professionals have been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces. We are a one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about carpentry services in Metuchen, New Jersey.
-
Our carpentry services cover everything from detailed trim installation to structural carpentry repair, helping homeowners maintain and upgrade wood elements inside and outside their homes. Typical projects include trim installation, crown molding installation, baseboard and casing replacement, door and window adjustments, shelving, and targeted carpentry repair for damaged wood features. Older homes may require adjustments to accommodate uneven walls, settling, or previous modifications before carpentry installation can move forward effectively. For professional carpentry services in Metuchen, Mr. Handyman can review your goals and help determine the best approach so you can decide with confidence.
-
Yes, repairing trim, baseboards, and crown molding is a common part of our carpentry repair work. Over time, baseboards and crown molding can loosen or sustain impact damage, requiring reinforcement or partial replacement through carpentry services. Once we see what’s driving the issue, we can recommend a repair plan that restores stability and appearance, whether that means reinforcing the existing piece or replacing the area. When crown molding or baseboards show signs of wear, our team in Metuchen, can provide a professional evaluation and share clear next steps.
-
Yes, we offer carpentry repair and trim installation as part of our full range of carpentry services. Trim installation and carpentry repair often work hand in hand, especially when older wood features need attention before new updates are completed. In some cases, reinforcing or repairing existing wood provides the best outcome, while in others, installing new trim ensures a cleaner, more consistent finish. If your home in Metuchen needs carpentry repair or new trim installation, Mr. Handyman can review the scope and outline practical next steps before work begins.
-
Crown molding installation typically begins with a quick assessment of the room and careful preparation of the work area. Your trusted carpenter will measure the walls and ceiling lines, evaluate corners and angles, and determine the best layout for the molding. This preparation helps ensure the trim pieces align properly and create a consistent, professional appearance once installed. Then, the crown molding installation process includes careful measuring, cutting, and fitting of each molding section. A skilled carpenter uses specialized tools to create accurate angle cuts so the molding fits tightly at corners and joints. Each section is secured to the wall and ceiling framing to ensure it sits evenly and remains stable over time. During installation, the trained service professional may also perform minor carpentry repair when needed. Uneven surfaces, small gaps, or existing trim concerns may require adjustment before the molding is installed. These small fixes help ensure the finished result blends smoothly with surrounding trim installation and interior features. Once installed, the final steps usually include filling nail holes, smoothing joints, and checking alignment. These finishing touches prepare the molding for paint or finishing. Professional carpentry services focus on precise installation so crown molding enhances the room’s overall appearance.
-
How long trim installation takes largely depends on the scale of the space and the level of detail involved. A simple replacement of existing trim is different in scope from installing new molding throughout several rooms. A professional review of the space helps account for conditions that may affect trim installation, including alignment and existing detailing. Planning a trim upgrade in Metuchen? We can review the layout and outline what to expect before installation starts.
-
Start by looking for a local carpenter with experience in the specific type of project you need completed. Many carpentry professionals focus on certain specialties, including carpentry repair, trim installation, and crown molding installation. Hiring a carpenter familiar with your project type helps ensure the work is done correctly. It’s also important to evaluate the range of carpentry services offered. A skilled carpenter handyman should be able to handle both carpentry installation and repair work, whether that involves installing new trim, repairing damaged woodwork, or completing custom projects around the home. Hiring someone with a broad skill set allows you to address multiple projects with one trusted professional. Communication is another important factor. A dependable carpenter should explain the scope of work, outline the process, and provide a clear estimate before beginning the job. Professional carpentry services keep homeowners informed about timelines, materials, and expected outcomes. Attention to detail is equally important. Skilled carpenters rely on precise measurements and careful finishing to achieve a professional result. Working with an experienced local carpenter helps ensure the final work enhances both the function and appearance of your home.
