When you use Mr. Handyman you have to understand that it is a minimum billing of two hours. They send someone out, he quotes the cost of the work, and when you okay it, he starts. You might get billed for time if you don't have the work done on that same day. So take care to line up one or more projects and have the materials on hand. The technician sent to me (Rob Evans) was courteous, helpful and efficient–the three projects that I lined up for him were completed in a total of 4 hours. 1. The top rail (to which all the pickets were attached) of my front gate was coming apart and would no longer hold the screws securing the latch mechanism. I purchased a 2×4 ahead of time, so Rob was able to go right to work on this. He disassembled the gate and replaced the top rail with the new wood, then reattached all the pickets and rehung the gate. (I later did the painting myself, or he would have done it.) 2. While Rob worked on the gate, I went out to purchase a replacement back door for the garage. Rob then cut it to fit and hung it. 3. The ChiliPepper contains a pump, tubing, and a temperature sensor. When you turn on the hot water tap, it reroutes water back into the system until hot water arrives at the faucet. That way you are not running water down the drain while you wait for hot water to arrive from the water heater. (This is especially useful if you have an on-demand, tankless water heater.) Rob installed the ChiliPepper. This involved cutting a hole in the cabinet to route the electrical line to an outlet, installing the switch, making all of the plumbing connections and then priming the pump. System works great. So, the handyman's skillset involved plumbing, electrical and carpentry. All jobs were completed to a good result.

You get what you pay for folks – it is that simple. I needed help with what sounded to be a simple job (install a dog door) but I knew wasn't (was going in where an existing dog door was located – but not the same size/construction). My husband and I are pretty aggressive about tackling home repairs on our own, but this was certainly out of our league and would have been botched by your average guy. Frank showed up on time, loved the dog, did an outstanding job and worked with me to keep the job within my budget. Once we got into it, the project was going to take a lot more time than I had anticipated. To make it work, we agreed that I would take on the work to "make it pretty" if he tackled the stuff I wasn't so confident about (framing, plastering, stucco repair, install of new door/device) and it worked out great. After seeing what Frank through to get it installed, I know we made the right choice – this needed a true pro and that is what we got. Everything was clean, the workmanship was excellent and Frank was a pleasure. It helped that I had materials here ready for him to use and had talked through the project carefully with the manager. All in all, for those annoying projects that go beyond our skill set, I know I'll call again.

The woman who answers the phone when we call the company is great. Frank was the guy who came out to do the work and he was fantastic. He made time and finished the job that was left unfinished by another company because I fired them. It felt so good to get everything done. It sounds expensive, but they can get through a lot of stuff in that time. He charged me on an hourly basis, but it was a good value. We pay $90.00 an hour, but the guy does 3 or 4 things in that hour. He did it just as I wanted. He was very well-dressed and spoke English beautifully. It was wonderful. I understood everything. I am going to hire them back. They are bonded and licensed. They gave me a 15 percent discount coupon because I left a report for them.

Frank Scarpelli was great. Arrived on time and fixed all our problems we had with our door. I would highly recommend him.
