The gentleman performing the job came on time, in fact he was early. He was extremely polite and courteous throughout the job. I was very impressed. He finished the service ahead of schedule and did another project for me while he was here. Everything turned out great so far. I really won't know how well the job was done until we start to get some rain again. The only issue was that it was a bit pricey. They did tell me ahead of time though, which I appreciated.

We needed to fix problems with bathroom/kitchen remodels and new lighting jobs that were done by the prior owner of our condo, where we have no contact with the original contractor (who was certainly not licensed, and probably not even legitimate). We needed a licensed and insured contractor to get involved so we could get permits and city inspections to make sure everything is safe and legal in our condo. General contractors turned up their noses at us. "Job's too small," they said. Other handymen we contacted came and looked at the job, and even charged us for the visit, but said things like, "I can't get this past inspection!" When Gil from Mr. Handyman showed up, he had a positive attitude, and was willing to go through the permitting and inspection process and have Mr. Handyman become the contractor of record. The man that did the bulk of the work was Daniel, a really cool guy and hard worker. Within a short time, we had all of the many code violations fixed, our kitchen and living room are brighter than before (with dimmers) and not liable to start a fire, and our water heater and plumbing are safer. Throughout the process, Gil and Daniel: 1. Were punctual, polite, and professional. They cleaned up every mess. Gil responded promptly to all communications, and was never late for an appointment at the city building office or at my home. 2. Showed tremendous integrity. Open and upfront about pricing, and billed me only what I agreed to, or less. Daniel worked quickly even though they charge hourly. When there was any kind of problem with the work and I pointed it out, every single time Gil's and Daniel's approach demonstrated a clear and honest desire to fix it. Not once did they even hint at some kind of excuse as some workers do whose goal is to check off a task, get paid, and move on. Every time it was "You're right, I'll fix it." These guys wanted it done right as if this were their own home, they fixed it promptly, and deducted any extra time from the bill; I didn't even have to ask. For tasks that included too many unknowns, their first estimate was only for the time to tear apart what they needed to come up with a plan, and then they explained in great detail the challenges faced with what was found (this is an old building), what the options were, and the costs for each. 3. Demonstrated a high level of skill. Two light fixtures had been installed so badly (by the previous owners) they were about to fall out. I tried fixing it myself, and it looked like the whole mounting assembly would have to be ripped from the wall and reinstalled. Any other contractor could have told me that and charged me a bundle, and I would have been suckered. But, in about a half hour, Daniel had them both secured like they should have been from the beginning, without replacing any hardware. And there's the integrity again. The city inspectors complimented their work as well. I might have paid less if I did this under the radar, but, given how hard they worked to come under their estimates and their reasonable hourly fees, that may not even be the case. And, when you consider their qualifications for me to have all this work properly permitted as I required, Mr. Handyman clearly gave me the best value for my investments. Gil's and Daniel's integrity and skill bring great credit to the local Mr. Handyman franchise, the larger corporation, and the contractor industry itself. Some other Yelpers griped about it being about $300 for them to come to fix a small thing. Keep in mind, this isn't Joe the handyman with his pickup truck and dented red toolbox. They're sort of between what we think of as a handyman and a full-fledged general contractor. General contractors won't do one-off tasks like this, and an ordinary handyman typically isn't licensed. So, if you need permitted work with a licensed contractor and don't meet the minimum for general contractors in the area, Mr. Handyman is a no-brainer. And, if I'm ever taking bids for a larger job (remodel from scratch, addition, etc.), I'm certainly going to call them.

Robin Evans was excellent and a very nice guy and he is a studio musician who has played with bands like the Red Hot Chili Peepers. I would recommend him to anyone for any handyman work they need to have done, he also gave me 10% off for being an Angie's List member.

I'm very pleased to recommend Mr. Handyman and their handyman Dale. My dishwasher began overflowing this morning, and as water started flooding my kitchen I called a number of handymen listed/recommended online, often leaving messages on answering machines. Mr. Handyman responded quickly and Dale arrived 2 hours early! Dale was a great guy, polite, professional. and solved the problem quickly, and while he was waiting for the dishwasher to run it's cycles, he also fixed my stove and barbeque! All for a very reasonable fee. Thanks Dale!

I called Mr. Handyman to complete the detail work to the renovation of my rental property (2 structures) that my contractor simply wasn't detailed oriented enough to finalize. I've worked with Mr. Handyman in the past (with Gil) and know the techs that arrive are very skilled, very high level thinkers, improvisers and even artistic in the way they solve problems. I had my list of projects, big and small – and it turns out my list has extended into 3 separate days over the course of June. What needed to be handled when I called Mr. Handyman and at the conclusion of Day 3 of work has been the difference between feeling confident that tenants could move in and not, and the peace of mind that things were done right. Angelo is the tech that showed up, and Angelo is who I've had the pleasure of working with over the 3 days. His expertise, attention to detail, single-mindedness and get-it-done attitude made all of the below possible and even fun. Angelo arrived cheerful and ready to tackle my lists, and prioritize what was important to me. We checked in every now and then to see where we are time-wise, re-work what needed to get done and maximize the time. Here is what we did: Day 1: I had one big project that was my main priority and a lot of little projects that were low priority. The big project was to finish a very tight area beneath the stairs of my California basement in a way that made the space less dirty and more inviting for prospective tenants. First, Angelo completed the laminate flooring that my contractor said couldn't be done in such a small area, then he framed, supported, shimmed, and dry-walled beneath the stairs. He also added baseboards. Finally, he put back the small access panel he'd had to cut, very professionally mudded that, and then removed, recut and reinstalled the baseboards my contractor had done a very shoddy job of. What an amazing difference his work made in that uninviting space! This one project ended up taking the whole day and the smaller tasks ended up on Day 2. Day 2: Installed a bannister for the same basement – more transformation! Installed 2 tall cabinets in the master bathroom and adjusted the doors; installed a hanging cabinet in another bathroom; caulked around kitchen cabinets and in the bathrooms; installed house numbers on 2 separate addresses; moved a mailbox. A full day's work. Day 3: Installed quarter round trim in 4 rooms; installed permanent hearth cover onto faux fireplace; installed support boards in closets; installed 3 large custom blinds (gorgeous!); installed trim around new cabinets in bathroom; installed toilet paper holders (2) and a cabinet. A full day's work. And, in addition to all of the above, Angelo consulted with my boyfriend and I on other projects that we were working on while Angelo was on site. He seamlessly moved back and forth between roles, he asked questions about my preference of things as they came up, and just generally knocked tasks out. It made me happy, happy, happy, and I now feel confident that I could hand the houses off to tenants and know things were done, and done well. Never for a moment did I feel like my money was not being well-spent. To have someone like Angelo come to the house, show up with all the right tools and ready for action – you cannot put a price on that. Thanks so much, Angelo and Mr. Handyman!

Frequently Asked Questions About Door Repair and Installation in Sherman Oaks, CA

For 30 years, Mr. Handyman professionals have been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces. We are a one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about door repair and installation services in Sherman Oaks, California.

  • A door that no longer closes smoothly often signals alignment problems tied to hardware wear, moisture fluctuations, or structural settling. As the door’s alignment with the frame changes over time, problems such as sticking, uneven spacing, or latch issues may occur. Addressing these concerns with proper door repair can restore smooth operation. Addressing alignment issues typically includes securing loose hinges, correcting latch placement, or refining the door’s fit within the opening. Taking care of a sticking door early helps prevent added strain on the frame and hardware. Homeowners in Sherman Oaks can restore smooth, reliable operation with professional door repair.

  • Yes. Many damaged door frames or jambs can be repaired, especially when the damage is limited to small cracks, soft spots, minor rot, or loose sections. If the surrounding frame is still in good condition, targeted door repair can address weak spots, restore smooth operation, and strengthen hardware connections without replacing the entire assembly. If the damage is widespread, structurally compromised, or affecting how the door fits and functions, partial frame or full front door replacement may be the more durable long-term solution. A careful assessment determines which approach will properly restore stability and performance. Addressing frame damage early helps prevent further deterioration and alignment issues. Homeowners in Sherman Oaks can rely on experienced door repair and installation services to restore stability and proper function.

  • In most cases, air escaping around an exterior door points to compressed weatherstripping, minor frame gaps, alignment changes, or failing insulation. Flattened seals and slight alignment changes often create narrow spaces that allow undesired airflow. Drafts at the bottom of the door or inconsistent room temperatures are common signs. Draft issues can frequently be resolved by renewing seals, correcting hinge alignment, or improving insulation along the frame. If the door no longer seals securely, replacement may become the practical next step. Strengthening the seal reduces strain on heating and cooling systems while improving overall efficiency. Mr. Handyman serves Sherman Oaks and surrounding areas with dependable door repair and replacement.

  • When the door’s core structure and frame are still strong and the issue is limited to hardware wear, minor surface damage, or alignment concerns, professional door repair is typically the appropriate solution. Small cracks, hinge instability, and slight alignment issues can often be corrected through door repair without installing a new door. Installing a new door may be necessary when structural damage extends beyond surface-level concerns and impacts durability or alignment. The right solution helps your door open, close, and seal as it should. In Sherman Oaks, trusted door services support lasting alignment and performance.

  • Cracks, warping, or deterioration are common warning signs that front door replacement may be needed. These issues can reduce the door’s durability and insulation. If you notice drafts, difficulty latching, sticking edges, or uneven gaps around the frame, the door may no longer be properly aligned. In some cases, door repair or other door services can correct these problems, but severe damage may require a full replacement. Worn hinges, loose hardware, or aging components can also affect performance. In some cases, a quick fix like replace doorknob hardware or tightening hinges may help, but persistent issues often signal the need for front door replacement. Your local Mr. Handyman offers dependable door services, including expert door repair and front door replacement to help maintain security and efficiency.
