Tony did a great job installing 2 basement windows and installing a front door awning. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable.

Quick response to my inquiries and quick repair. Only 2 days from initial contact to completion. Great job. Needed work outdoors and it was completed during a rain storm. Can't get much better service then that!

From calling to inquire about services & prices, through to my appointment, excellent & friendly customer service on every level. In addition, pricing was clearly explained, & a service tech was assigned according to the work I needed done. My handyman was personable, very detailed, & after completing the work, explained what he had done, & even gave me tips related to the work he had performed (plumbing/electrical). I will definitely be calling again, & soon!

After I called,a representative from Mr Handyman, Bruce, came to my house to see the work I needed to have done. He took pictures and measurements as needed so he could purchase the correct material. The first day, Bruce, and another employee, Joe, showed up exactly on time. Joe was to do most of the work with assistance from Bruce when 2 people were needed for the job. Whenever they came in my house they put on these red booties so as not to track in any dirt etc. I was very impressed with this. My front columns were all chewed up and parts of wood were missing at the bottom. Joe removed the columns and built new ones. I couldn't believe the columns he built, they were beautiful. Joe did a fabulous job on all the projects he worked on which are described above. During the next rainstorms I did not have any water leak through the window that he caulked. I can now fully open & close the kitchen drawers that he fixed. Joe did a great job in selecting and installing the handicap rails. He was extremely professional, efficient and his work was meticulous. I know that I will use Joe again and recommend him to my friends.

From the first phone call, and the estimate, to the install, everything was handled promptly and professionally. Mine is an older house (circa 1946) and the original owner did a lot of his own work with not-so-great results that I am gradually, gradually fixing. The basement windows were cracked and unsealed and when the driveway was paved the windows on that side ended up below grade so they got water and moss (and earthworms and other things). Now I have custom-sized windows, with screens, that open and let some ventilation in, and they don't let any water, bugs or mice in. I took some pictures which I know are unimpressive, I really should have taken some "before".

He is very good. He has got a lot of recommendations on Angie's List. He was clean and efficient. He knew what he was doing. His price was comparable and fair.

Greg, the technician, showed up on time the scheduled morning and right away estimated the kind of repairs it should be done. The damaged on the siding were for part due to storm Sandy, but also to a poor design originated when the siding was first put on. In order to complete the job, which required some adjustment in length of the siding panels, Greg tried to call the company that makes the panels, but it turned out the company no longer existed.Luckily I had a few left over panels in my garage, that Greg managed to use. I was really happy it worked this way, or I would have to redo the entire siding. The job was tedious but Greg did it perfectly, up to the minor detail and when it was completed the siding looked like brand new. Greg not only was knowledgeable on this kind of job but also very creative in the way he managed to use the panels by switching them to the best fitting. Moreover, upon my request, he also fixed a corner of my front door. I am pleased to say that I would hire Mr Handyman again when I need them for any kind of job and probably very soon.

We needed replacement of the pair of windows in the front room of our 100 year old house. Everything went very well from my talk with the estimator about what we wanted, to the installation. The windows look great. All the "handymen" are very nice people.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for over 25 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about deck repair and deck installation.

  • Several factors influence the cost of deck repair, including deck size, materials, and the extent of the damage. Minor repairs like replacing a few boards or securing railings are generally less complex than structural restoration. Costs are usually higher when the framing, joists, or support posts are affected. Water exposure, rot, or shifting footings often lead to more extensive deck repair or partial replacement. Recurring board damage or loose railings can point to a larger problem within the deck. Moisture in the framing often causes these issues to return. Repeating surface level deck repair may cost more than addressing the structural source. An on-site evaluation helps determine the real cost of deck repair. Your local team in Stirling can examine the deck, review repair or replacement options, and outline the work required.

  • Homeowners insurance may cover deck repair, but the determining factor is usually what caused the damage. Insurance policies typically apply to sudden events rather than routine maintenance. Most policies cover sudden damage from events such as storms, fallen trees, fire, vandalism, or vehicle impact. Because decks are often categorized as part of the home’s structure or an attached feature, insurance may help cover repair or replacement costs after the deductible. However, issues caused by aging materials or lack of maintenance are generally excluded. Rotting boards, loose railings, worn fasteners, or long-term moisture damage are typically considered maintenance responsibilities. If you’re unsure whether deck repair may be covered, a written inspection can help when discussing the situation with your insurance provider. Notes about damaged boards, loose railings, or affected framing can clarify the condition of the structure and help determine whether deck repair or deck replacement may be needed.

  • Replacing one damaged board may appear simple. Many deck repair projects involve more than surface materials. Framing, ledger boards, and support posts carry significant weight and must be attached correctly to perform as intended. Improper fastening or misaligned supports can lead to long term structural issues. Decks connect directly to the home structure. Incorrect repairs near ledger boards or flashing can allow water intrusion and lead to rot behind siding. Visible deck damage does not always show the full condition of the structure. Soft boards may indicate moisture in the joists underneath. Board replacement without reviewing the framing can leave deeper issues in place. Many deck repair projects require structural review, proper hardware installation, and attention to code requirements. A qualified deck repair handyman can help correct structural concerns and support the long term condition of the deck.

  • Deck contractors may organize their work differently depending on the company. Some work independently while others use rotating crews or focus on building new decks. The experience for homeowners can vary based on how projects are scheduled and completed. Mr. Handyman completes deck repair, deck refinishing, deck installation, and deck replacement through a locally owned and operated business that is licensed and insured. Service professionals handle many types of home improvement work, not just a single project. Coordinated scheduling and communication support the service experience. Mr. Handyman provides deck repair services in Stirling through a local team of service professionals. Uniformed professionals arrive in branded vehicles and follow an established service structure. Projects move through an organized scheduling process. Defined procedures guide how deck repair services are inspected and completed. Service completed under the Done Right Promise® follows established service standards across the Neighborly network. Professional processes and responsive customer support contribute to a dependable experience. Homeowners receive local service with national brand support.

  • Protective coatings on wood decks gradually wear down from sunlight and moisture. Many decks require refinishing about every two to three years to maintain protection. Once sealant fades, boards absorb moisture more easily and begin to deteriorate. Inspecting a deck each year helps identify early deterioration. Minor board damage and loose hardware can often be repaired before deeper structural issues appear. Climate conditions affect timing. Extreme weather accelerates wear. Homes exposed to harsh weather often require more frequent deck restoration to maintain stability. Working with a local deck builder in Stirling helps homeowners plan regular inspections, refinishing, and repairs that extend the life of the deck.
