Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

We needed some door repair work done. Chris was the technician and went above and beyond to get our storm doors repaired and working well. He also reviewed another job and didn’t try to talk us into anything we didn’t need. We will definitely contact them in the future.

  • John T.

Mike did a great job straightening out an out of tram patio french door.

  • Thomas M.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Very happy with the service from this company. I had a good initial online chat to give information for my project (screen door rescreening) which was followed up the next day with a call as promised to schedule. Our technician (Bill A.) was great; kind, very respectful of our house and space and answered questions that I had. Also really appreciated that we got a call from the main office to inform us he was running a little late; feel communication from companies tends to lack so this was refreshing they kept us in the loop like that. Would certainly consider Mr. Handyman for our future handyman needs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for over 25 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about deck repair and deck installation.

  • Pricing for deck repair is based on the size of the deck, the materials involved, and how far the damage has spread. Limited repairs such as board replacement or railing adjustments are usually less involved than structural deck restoration. Repairs that involve framing, joists, or support posts often require more time and materials. Rot, water damage, or shifting footings can lead to broader deck repair or partial deck replacement. Frequent small repairs may signal a larger structural concern. Soft areas that return or railings that become loose again often point to moisture affecting the framing. Ongoing surface level deck repair can add up if the root issue is not addressed. Many homeowners start with a project on-site evaluation to understand deck repair costs. A local professional in Merton can review the deck condition and explain repair or replacement paths.

  • Homeowners insurance may cover deck repair depending on what caused the damage. Policies generally cover unexpected incidents rather than routine maintenance issues. Most policies cover deck damage caused by storms, fallen trees, fire, vandalism, or vehicle impact. Because decks are commonly treated as part of the home’s structure or an attached feature, insurance may contribute to repair or replacement costs after the deductible. However, damage caused by aging materials or lack of maintenance is typically excluded. Rotting boards, loose railings, worn fasteners, or moisture damage are generally viewed as maintenance responsibilities. If you’re unsure about your coverage, a written inspection can help when discussing the damage with your insurance provider. Notes about damaged boards, loose railings, or affected framing can help determine whether deck repair or deck replacement may be needed.

  • Replacing a board is one part of deck repair. The structure below the surface boards also matters. Framing, ledger boards, and support posts support the deck and require correct installation. Poorly installed fasteners or supports can cause long term deck problems. Since decks connect to the home structure, repairs near ledger boards or flashing can allow water intrusion and lead to rot behind siding. Surface damage often hides deeper issues. Soft decking can indicate moisture in the joists below. Replacing boards without inspecting the framing leaves potential structural weakness in place. Deck repair handled by a professional typically includes reviewing the structure, securing hardware, and following code guidelines. Working with a qualified deck repair handyman helps address structural concerns and extend the life of the deck.

  • Deck contractors can operate under different business models. Some work independently, some rely on rotating crews, and some focus mainly on new construction projects. The experience homeowners receive can vary depending on how each company schedules work and assigns projects. Mr. Handyman provides deck repair, deck restoration, deck installation, and deck replacement through a locally owned and operated business that is licensed and insured. Homeowners work with highly-trained service professionals who support multiple home improvement needs. Organized scheduling and clear communication guide the process. Homeowners in Merton work with a local Mr. Handyman service team. Service professionals arrive in uniform and branded vehicles and follow a structured service process. Projects are scheduled through an organized system that supports consistent planning and communication. Established procedures guide how deck repair services are evaluated and completed. Projects are completed within the service standards associated with the Done Right Promise®. Professional procedures and responsive customer support a consistent service experience. Homeowners receive help from local service professionals backed by a recognized national brand.

  • Wood decks often need refinishing every few years to maintain their condition. Sun exposure and moisture slowly degrade protective sealants. Without that protection, boards absorb water more easily and begin to show cracking, warping, or surface damage. Regular deck inspections help locate early damage. Loose fasteners, cracked boards, and small soft areas can usually be repaired before structural problems develop. Climate exposure can shorten the life of deck sealants and finishes. Extreme weather gradually breaks down protective coatings. Routine upkeep coordinated with a local deck builder in Merton helps extend the life of decking materials and structural components.
