How To: Add handles and pulls to kitchen cabinets

Q:  Our kitchen cabinets have no pulls and we’re worried about discoloring them with wet or dirty hands.  What do you recommend?

A:  Many kitchen cabinets do not come pre-drilled for pulls.  Some prefer this look, but this approach has the downside of wet and dirty hands discoloring the cabinet doors and drawers over time.  Door and drawer pulls come in both single-hole and double-hole configurations and can be added to your cabinets.  Select a style, bring them home and ensure you are happy.  Holes cannot be un-drilled.  Have enough for all doors and drawers before you, or a service provider, begin the drilling process.

The most important part of this process is alignment.  Get all doors adjusted and aligned before drilling.  Center pulls on drawers, and doors at the same location on each door.  A jig can help if you have a lot of cabinets.
