Mr. Handyman Breaks World Record, Talks Trade Jobs

Mr. Handyman is a franchise concept. While our business serving greater Jacksonville is locally owned and operated (by us), there are 150+ other Mr. Handyman locations across the USA and Canada; each locally owned and operated. That includes 7 operating locations in Florida, with two new locations (Ft. Myers and Naples) due to open in September of 2019.

Mr. Handyman is also a Neighborly company. We’re one of 13 “home service” oriented brands under the Neighborly umbrella.

In the Jacksonville area we have 9 of those brands, including: Mr. Handyman (Home Improvement Services), Molly Maid (House Cleaning), Mr. Appliance (Appliance Repair), Mr. Rooter (Plumbing), Mosquito Joe (Mosquito Control), the Grounds Guys (Lawn Maintenance), Glass Doctor (Glass Repair & Installation), Rainbow International (Restoration Services), and Window Genie (Window Cleaning & More).

If you’ve had one or more of these local companies into your home, then you understand what Neighborly service is about. Professional, safe, reliable and convenient; Neighborly brands consistently stand above the rest as demonstrated by our online reviews and reputation.

As a demonstration of setting a high bar, Mr. Handyman recently organized a record-breaking attempt. Mr. Handyman franchise owners from across the nation, along with fellow Neighborly franchise owners from Molly Maid and Mr. Electric, participated in this record setting attempt.

369 Neighborly franchisees successfully, and simultaneously, hammered a nail into a block of wood. This broke the previous record of 299. The achievement was witnessed and verified by Guinness World Records.

This was a fun team building exercise, and bragging rights are always nice, but an additional goal for this project was to raise awareness of the opportunity and earnings that exist in the skilled trades.

While artificial intelligence and automation are replacing some jobs, it is still projected by GenerationT, an organization committed to closing the job skills gap, that by 2028 there will be 3 million job openings in the skilled trades. Attitudes toward skilled trade jobs are killing more jobs than AI and robots are.

People with strong Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills who like to work with their hands, and create things, but don’t have the study skills or financial means to pursue a 4-year degree at this time should explore their skilled trade options.

Like any position, everyone starts at the bottom and has to demonstrate the right attitude, aptitude and prove they are dependable. With time, learned skills, hard work and demonstrated proficiency, opportunity awaits. Forget the 2028 statistic shared above, most trade based business owners that I know are looking for help right now.

While refrigerators can be built off-shore and shipped stateside, service (when needed) will happen in the home. Roads, bridges and skyscrapers will be built in place by people. While new technology will help, people drive the technology. Trade jobs are not going away. Mr. Handyman, there’s simply no one like us!
