Fall Inspiration for Your Home

Fall began last week. It’s still pretty warm out there, but I see some color in the maple trees and we have had a few cool mornings. Fall in Florida is coming. We’ll start to get some cooler evenings and less humidity during the day. It is time to get out of the air-conditioned home and get inspired for your next project at home. Here are two ways to do that.

The Jacksonville Home & Patio Show is coming up September 30th thru October 3rd at the Prime Osborn Convention Center. Hundreds of vendors with a range of products and services will be onsite for four days, and there will also be live stage presentations, cooking demonstrations, and food trucks setup outside the venue Friday and Sunday.

Friday (Oct. 1) at the show is Hero Day. Active military, veterans, police, fire and first responders get into the show for free with proper ID. Sunday (Oct. 3) is Teacher Day. All teachers and school employees receive free admission with a school ID.

Shows are great for getting inspired. Elaborate outdoor kitchens, product demonstrations, and product samples of all kinds are presented to get your creative juices flowing. There are also products to purchase that simplify your life and beautify your home. Better than visiting one showroom, shows have multiple vendors representing similar service categories, so you can take it all in with one stop.

I will be working the show, so stop by booth T-4 and say hello. Then, talk to vendors and grab a business card or brochure from folks that impress you and then check them out online after the show. There are always great vendors at the show, but not all are created equal. I recommend you also check out reputations online before hiring anyone.

Another great fall event, combining the great outdoors, architecture, music, food and maybe a beer truck, is Jacksonville’s Porch Fest. Held in historic Springfield, local residents open up their porches for bands and performers. This year’s event is Saturday, November 6th. That’s still six weeks out but get it on your calendar now.

Attendees can stroll the neighborhood, listing various genres of music, observe some classic architecture, and enjoy the festival atmosphere. Food, drink, and craft vendors are present, or you can bring a picnic lunch and blanket to take it all in.

In the spirit of ideas and inspiration for projects at your home, Porch Fest is a wonderful event. While attending, you will also see how folks have setup their porches, yards and landscaping, exterior color choices, and exterior accents of all kinds. It also has an awesome vibe!
