I’ve used Mr.Handyman multiple times. Everyone from the office to Michael who came to my house is great. They are highly efficient and I know everything that they do is going to work.

  • Dale E.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Jerimiah, the service technician, arrived on time. He was very courteous and professional. All work scheduled plus an extra job (dryer duct cleaning) was completed in a timely manner. Jerimaih wore shoe covers whenever he was working in the house and did an excellent job cleaning up when he was finished. I scheduled a power washing for my home for a later date. A company representative called shortly after Jerimiah left to ensure that all work was done to my satisfaction. Overall an excellent experience. I will use Mr. Handyman of N. Baltimore County for any other home repairs/upgrades.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Jack was very courteous and knowledgeable. He helped us to determine that we needed to change the 220 outlet to 115 in order for operating the new air conditioner. He did a great job installing the other two air conditioners.

I LOVED my experience w/ Mr. Handyman. I tried this company for the first time a in the fall, before it got cold. I love that I received a text with a 30-minute arrival notice, and the text included a photo of my technician & his truck! The tech who came to my house was totally courteous and professional. He completed the tasks efficiently and my home looked fantastic afterward. He even took before & after photos of the pressure washing he did – so glad I had him come out! A really pleasant surprise was the variety of jobs that this company can do for you, nothing too small (bleeding my radiators) all the way up to 3-day projects so renovations/remodels too. I also learned they will even put up your holiday decorations for Clark W. Griswolds out there. If you think anything that needs doing, I strongly recommend you call Mr. Handyman!

Jaime Parada showed up exactly on time and completed our job in just over an hour. I am myself an experienced handyman, but am old and slightly disabled … I had struggled with this job for several hours, but had failed. I was extremely impressed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for over 25 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about deck repair and deck installation.

  • Deck repair costs are influenced by deck size, material type, and the level of damage. Minor repairs like replacing a few boards or securing railings are generally simpler than larger deck restoration work. Costs increase when underlying framing, joists, or support posts are affected. Water damage, rot, and shifting footings often require more comprehensive deck repair or partial deck replacement to restore structural integrity. Repeated minor repairs can indicate a deeper problem. Boards that soften again or railings that loosen repeatedly often suggest moisture within the framing. Continuing surface level deck repair in those situations may cost more over time than resolving the underlying structure. A service professional in Chase can inspect the deck, discuss repair or replacement options, and outline the next steps.

  • Deck repair may be covered by homeowners insurance, but coverage typically depends on how the damage occurred. Insurance policies generally apply to sudden events rather than routine maintenance. Many insurance policies cover damage caused by sudden events such as storms, fallen trees, fire, vandalism, or vehicle impact. Since decks are often considered part of the home’s structure or an attached feature, insurance may help pay for repair or replacement costs after the deductible. Damage related to normal wear and tear or ongoing maintenance issues is usually not covered. Rotting boards, loose railings, aging fasteners, or moisture-related deterioration are typically considered the homeowner’s responsibility. If you’re unsure about coverage, a written inspection can help when speaking with your insurance provider. Documentation about damaged boards, loose railings, or structural framing can help determine whether deck repair or deck replacement may be required.

  • Some deck repairs begin with a visible board problem. The structure beneath the boards often plays an important role. Framing, ledger boards, and support posts support the deck and require proper attachment. Fasteners that are not installed correctly or supports that shift out of place can affect the deck structure. Decks connect to the home structure, so repairs near ledger boards or flashing can allow water to seep in. Soft or damaged boards may indicate moisture within the structure of the deck. The joists below the surface may already be affected. Replacing boards without examining the framing can leave deeper structural concerns in place. Professional deck repair services include structural assessment, proper hardware installation, and code-aware practices. Hiring a qualified deck repair handyman helps address structural concerns and extend the life of your existing deck installation.

  • Deck contractors operate under many different business models. Some work independently, some rely on rotating crews, and some focus primarily on new construction. Service experience can vary depending on how each company staffs and schedules its projects. Understanding who will actually complete the deck repair and how the work is managed helps homeowners set clear expectations before hiring. Mr. Handyman offers deck repair, deck refinishing, deck installation, and deck replacement through a locally owned and operated business that is licensed and insured. Homeowners work with consistent, highly-trained service professionals who handle a variety of home improvement projects. Clear scheduling and communication are part of how projects are managed. Mr. Handyman serves homeowners throughout Chase with local, dedicated service professionals. Uniformed professionals arrive in branded vehicles and follow an established service process. Work is scheduled and managed through an organized system. Defined procedures guide how deck repair services are inspected, scheduled, and completed across each project. The Done Right Promise® reflects the service standards followed across the Neighborly family of home service brands. Professional accountability and organized customer support reinforce the quality of each project. Homeowners receive service from a local team connected to a national network.

  • Deck refinishing is commonly needed every two to three years for many wood decks. Sunlight and moisture gradually weaken protective coatings. When the sealant fades or wears away, the wood underneath becomes more exposed to moisture and long term deterioration. Annual deck reviews help identify loose connections, small cracks, and early soft spots. Addressing these issues early can prevent larger structural repairs. Homes in areas with extreme weather may require more frequent deck maintenance. These conditions place additional stress on wood and protective finishes. Consistent maintenance planning with a local deck builder in Chase helps reduce the likelihood of unexpected deck replacement.
