Meet The Friendly Team at Mr. Handyman of Northern Virginia - Arlington to Haymarket

Jo McCabe is the local franchise owner of Mr. Handyman. A retired U.S. Navy veteran, Jo served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer and Security Officer, bringing decades of leadership, operational discipline, and service-first values into her business. Although she grew up moving frequently due to her family’s military background, Jo considers Northern Virginia home, having completed her final three years of high school in Manassas and graduating from Osbourn Park High School. In 2008, she purchased the Mr. Handyman franchise and has since focused on building an exceptional team dedicated to providing reliable, high-quality service and an outstanding customer experience. Community involvement is a core part of Jo’s mission. She is especially proud of her company’s long-standing participation in the National Day of Service, where each year her team partners with local businesses to provide free home repairs—both labor and materials—to a local military veteran or military family in need. Outside of work, Jo is an avid beekeeper, maintaining multiple hives on her own property and volunteering her time to assist other local beekeepers. She is an active member of the Prince William Regional Beekeepers Association and frequently works alongside her Service Professionals to safely remove and relocate honey bee hives from homes and structures, protecting both homeowners and these vital pollinators. Jo also serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Prince William County, a role she has held since 2022, and on the Board of Directors for the Prince William Chamber of Commerce since 2025, further reflecting her commitment to service, housing stability, and giving back to the community.

Zoe is our beloved Office Greeter and Activities Director. She joined the Mr. Handyman team in 2019 and has been boosting morale ever since. Zoe takes her role seriously, making sure the office staff gets their daily dose of fresh air, exercise, and much-needed movement breaks. She is also responsible for welcoming visitors and delivery drivers, ensuring every delivery is met with proper attention—and preferably a dog treat. When she’s not supervising the office or inspecting incoming packages, Zoe can usually be found making the rounds for pets, spreading smiles, and keeping the workplace fun, friendly, and stress-free.

Kim is our Accounting Manager and one of the key people who keeps Mr. Handyman running smoothly behind the scenes. Since joining our team in 2018, she has become an essential resource for both our clients and our internal team. Kim has an exceptional command of the numbers and plays a vital role in supporting both residential and commercial projects. Clients often interact with Kim throughout larger or multi-phase jobs, where her attention to detail, clear communication, and follow-through help ensure a seamless experience from start to finish. Beyond accounting, Kim is instrumental in training our Service Professionals, helping them understand systems, processes, and best practices that contribute to their success. She also supports and trains other Mr. Handyman franchise owners, sharing her expertise and helping elevate operations beyond our local office. Kim is equally passionate about team culture. She organizes our team-building events, including our annual National Day of Service, and is often the driving force behind cookouts, warehouse karaoke, and any event that brings the team together. When there’s a grill involved, there’s a good chance Kim is running it. With her organizational skills, leadership, and genuine care for both people and process, Kim plays a critical role in delivering the professional, reliable service our clients expect—and in making our workplace a fun, supportive place to be.

Nancy is our Office Administrator and plays a vital role in keeping both our team and our client experience strong. She helps ensure we have the right people on our team by managing job postings and conducting initial candidate interviews, serving as one of the first touchpoints for future Service Professionals. Nancy also reviews all estimates for accuracy before they are sent to our clients, providing an important layer of quality control and attention to detail that helps set clear expectations from the start of every project. In addition to her administrative expertise, Nancy brings a creative touch to the business. She has been instrumental in helping design and decorate our parade floats, and even put her artistic skills to work by painting one of our bee hive boxes during a honey bee relocation project for a client. Perhaps most importantly, Nancy has a genuine heart for people. She is always listening for opportunities to send a handwritten card—whether it’s to celebrate a milestone, wish someone well, or offer sympathy—adding a personal connection that means a great deal to our clients. Through her organization, creativity, and thoughtfulness, Nancy helps make every interaction with Mr. Handyman feel both professional and personal.

Chenita is our Commercial Accounts Manager, affectionately known as “The Wrangler.” Since joining the team in 2022, she has become the go-to person for our commercial clients and many of our larger, more complex projects. Chenita manages relationships with our commercial customers, ensuring their projects are coordinated smoothly from start to finish. If she’s not wrangling office staff, she’s wrangling Service Professionals—and on occasion, even the owner—to make sure timelines, details, and expectations stay on track. Beyond her operational expertise, Chenita plays a big role in team culture and logistics. She helps coordinate and decorate the office for each holiday and is an expert parking attendant when it’s time to line up vehicles and keep our National Day of Service caravan moving in the right direction. Outside of work, Chenita enjoys tackling intricate 3D puzzles and can often be found around her fire pit—earning her a playful reputation as the team’s resident pyromaniac. With her organization, persistence, and good-humored leadership, Chenita keeps our commercial operations running efficiently while making sure both clients and teammates are well taken care of.

Bobby is one of our residential service professionals. He has been a member of our team since 2021. He enjoys knocking out those small pesky projects that many of our clients don't have the time or know how to complete. He specializes in drywall, assembly, and carpentry. Jerry is one of our lead service professionals. He has been a member of our team since 2021 and has been in the construction industry for over 25 years. He spends most of his time taking care of our commercial clients but does enjoy tackling projects for our residential clients as well. He is skilled in carpentry, drywall, painting, electrical and plumbing. He takes pride in his work and enjoys solving problems for his clients. He leads some of our larger projects such as bathroom renovations and kitchen remodels. He looks forward to working with you on your next project.

Luis is one of our residential service professionals. He has been a member of our team since 2022. He has worked in the construction industry for over 15 years. He enjoys taking care of our clients and has experience in many of the trades, including carpentry, drywall, electrical and plumbing. He enjoys discussing our client's projects with them and will offer advice on future projects if you ask.

Chris joined our team in 2024. He has worked in the construction industry for over 20 years and enjoys small projects involving electrical, carpentry, or plumbing as well as larger projects including bathroom remodeling or kitchen remodeling. He is also part of the honey bee removal team. If you find honey bees have built their hive in your house or shed, Chris will be the Service Professional coming out to evaluate and safely remove and relocate the honey bee hive. Carlos has been part of our team since 2020. He has worked in the construction industry for over 20 years. He enjoys a variety of projects to include carpentry, drywall, electrical, plumbing, flooring, and tile. He loves the variety of the projects he completes for his clients.

Sammy is one of our Service Professionals. He joined our amazing team in 2025 and brings experience from a variety of fields to include exterior trim repair, electrical, plumbing, and his newest acquired skill honey bee removal and relocation. He's a great addition to our team.

Mark is one of our Service Professionals. He joined the team in 2025 and brings a wealth of knowledge to include masonry, custom carpentry, bathroom remodels, and deck installations. He enjoys learning about his clients and offering suggestions and options for our client's projects. Feel free to ask him all the questions you can.

Jose is one of our Service Professionals. He joined our team in 2025 and brings a great sense of humor along with a wide variety of expertise ranging from small to large projects including fencing, roofing, decking, windows, bathroom remodels, lighting, drywall and much more.

Mohammad is one of our Service Professionals. He joined our team in 2025. He has a variety of skills in the construction field to include carpentry, drywall, electrical, and plumbing. Feel free to ask him questions about your next project.

Ruddy is one of our Service Professionals. He joined our awesome team in 2025. He has experience in carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, and plumbing. He enjoys discussing projects with our clients and seeing them smile when the project is completed. Feel free to test his talents.

This year our team as well as approximately 40 other local businesses were able to provide home repair services to a local military veteran who served in the US Army in the early 1970s. With the help of the entire team and all the volunteers, we were able to complete 51 home improvement projects including deck repair, fence repair, window replacement, door replacement, wood rot repair, drywall repair, dishwasher replacement, range hood replacement, electrical work, flooring replacement, caulking, painting, pressure washing, and HVAC service. Mr. Handyman thanks all military veterans for their service and sacrifice to our country and we look forward to assisting another military veteran next year.

Our team and approximately 40 other local business owners and their teams had the privilege of honoring Donna Diehl this year. Donna was a nurse in the US Army during the Vietnam War. She was in need of some home repairs and we were able to provide her service to include deck repair and staining, fence repair, landscaping work, drywall repair, door replacement, bathroom vanity replacement, painting and handrail installation. It was an honor to thank Donna for her service and provide her with the maintenance and repair services she needed.

Every year for the past 13 years, Mr. Handyman of Northern Virginia is honored to provide home repair services free of charge to a local military veteran and their family. This year we had the privilege of recognizing Ron Beyer and his wife Carol for Ron's sacrifice for our country. Ron is a disabled military veteran who served in the US Army from 1965 to 1985. Mr. Handyman partnered with several other local service business to provide much needed repairs and maintenance to include installation of a chair lift, landscaping, installation of handrails, deck repair and maintenance, painting, gutter cleaning, power washing, HVAC service and two bathroom renovations. Although it was a long day to ask this family to vacate their home, they were pleasantly surprised with everything our team was able to accomplish in a day to make functioning in their home just a little bit easier. Our team stays until the very end to see the big smiles on the veteran's face when they come home and see everything that was done in their honor. Mr. Handyman would like to thank Ron, his family, and all of the military veterans for their service to our country.

Our team enjoys working together as well as playing together. Having Fun in the Process is one of our Code of Values and we ensure that we incorporate that routinely in our schedule. Team building events allow us to get to know each other outside of the work environment, blow off steam, and ultimately helps us become a stronger team to better service our clients. This also allows us to support some of our local commercial clients. This night we confirmed that we are better at gutter cleaning than bowling but it was a great time at Uptown Alley in Manassas.

We don't always stop and take the time to take a group photo as Monday's typically consist of an early morning staff meeting followed by loading the vans and heading out to service our clients. This Monday in October we took the time after the staff meeting to take a quick photo as a team at our office. It takes an entire team to ensure our clients receive the remarkable experience they deserve.
