We needed someone to install our doors. This meant they would make all the necessary measurements on the initial visit to make the cut outs and hang them on 'THE EXISTING DOOR FRAME.' Apparently using the existing door frame is a problem for some companies – they prefer to yank out the existing door frame and installing a NEW door frame and door. 1 – be sure they know exactly where you live – this ensures they know if you are on the ground floor that they have easy access to their tools because if you live high up like we do, they would have to lug all of their equipment up the freight elevator to your place. —- We live on a high floor of a tall building. 2 – BE ABSOLUTELY sure whoever comes to your place that they get all the details; a) of the door to hang AND b) the existing door frame measurements. This is critical because it is necessary for the door to swing (or not swing but stay where you left it, so it does not drift because of it being off center), close and shut properly (the insert in the door jamb has to line up properly with the door lock mechanism). 3 – We had to ask them to send another carpenter to do one of the doors over and better (the door did not hang properly). So, overall we are okay with their service but in future we would ask for a more experienced person to show up and not someone who is not quite so experienced in hanging doors. I just do not quite understand why it such an undertaking to find a company to hang doors on existing door frames. All they have to do is make the measurements and cut to those measurements…

ServPro came into my home and cut a 5 foot x 4 hole in my ceiling to 'repair' a 1.5 foot water stain, then spent the entire next day trying to install drywall before literally giving up and all but admitting they couldn't fix it, then slapped me with a $700+ bill for mold restoration after the technician admitted to my wife there was no mold. Crooks. I was absolutely enraged. Then I found Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County. They promptly dispatched a highly professional drywall technician who apologized when my wife told him the story and then said 'I guess this is hard work for some people, but not for me'. He wasn't kidding. He provided my wife with periodic updates, was kind and courteous; and wouldn't you know it — came in UNDER what they original thought they had to charge me to remediate. Matching a butchered popcorn ceiling is not an easy task, but he did it to a very high level. After paint I honestly could not tell there was previously a hole in my ceiling and he took less than half a day to complete what ServPro couldn't complete in 8 hours. Every single person I spoke to during this job was beyond professional, knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make me happy. These are the folks that deserve our business and I'm so glad I was able to find them. I will 100% be using this company any opportunity I have need for a handyman. Thank you so much Tanya, Hector & Liz. You were an absolute pleasure to work with. We'll be in touch.

Mr Handyman of Northern Montgomery County has done different things for me. He's repaired my roof, fixed a closet and fixed a lock that had broken on a storm door. He completely fixed the leak on my roof. Two other people have attempted to fix the leak, but they were unsuccessful.

I submitted a service request online on a Saturday, and Victor Strassberger returned the call that evening. He was polite and asked for details about the jobs that needed to be done. Victor estimated the job would take about 6 hours. We discussed a schedule date and he said that his office would call to confirm on Monday. As I was in and out all day on Monday, I took the initiative and called the office. Liz acknowledged that my name was on her list to contact and apologized for not getting to me earlier in the day. We scheduled a service date for the following week. We received a phone call the night before telling us that the technician would arrive at 8:00am. Wayne Tolbert arrived exactly at the scheduled time. We were a bit surprised that there was only one person on this job, but Wayne did an outstanding job. He removed the old curbside mailbox and installed a new one (including setting the post in concrete), cleaned the gutters, and power washed the house. We recently had some remodeling done and the house siding was really dirty. We hadn't seen any Angie's List reports on Mr. Handyman doing power washing. Our house was power washed about 2 years ago by a team of three people, and it was not a good job. So, we didn't quite know what to expect from one person. Wayne, by himself, did an outstanding job. Our neighbor even commented that the house looked like the siding was brand new! The whole job took 8-1/2 hours rather than the estimated 6 hours. We were charged an additional $10.00 for the power washer gas. We wouldn't have considered this "supplies" as much as an equipment expense. Although this and the additional time cost us more money, it was money well spent. The hourly rate could run high for a one-technician project that takes a lot of time and must be done in stages with down time in between (like painting, masonry, etc, which has to dry or set before work can proceed). However, you need to remember when contracting with Mr. Handyman that charges are by the hour, with a 2-hour minimum charge, rather than by the project, so plan accordingly. We are happy to recommend Victor Strassberger, Mr. Handyman of Northern Montgomery County; and we will contact them again for another fall cleanup.

The customer service. Liz is great and having the owner come out to fix what was originally done wrong made a huge difference. We are small business owners and we appreciated that our concerns were addressed in such a professional and timely manner. We would definitely use the company again. I used Mr. Handyman to re-attach the gutter on the high side of the house and to replace a security light on the highest gable of the house. Technician was on time, courteous and above all did an excellent job. I would highly recommend Mr. Handyman.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for over 25 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about deck repair and deck installation.

  • Pricing for deck repair is based on the size of the deck, the materials involved, and how far the damage has spread. Limited repairs such as board replacement or railing adjustments are usually less involved than structural deck restoration. Repairs that involve framing, joists, or support posts often require more time and materials. Rot, water damage, or shifting footings can lead to broader deck repair or partial deck replacement. Frequent small repairs may signal a larger structural concern. Soft areas that return or railings that become loose again often point to moisture affecting the framing. Ongoing surface level deck repair can add up if the root issue is not addressed. Many homeowners start with a project on-site evaluation to understand deck repair costs. A local professional in North Bethesda can review the deck condition and explain repair or replacement paths.

  • Homeowners insurance may cover deck repair depending on what caused the damage. Policies generally cover unexpected incidents rather than routine maintenance issues. Most policies cover deck damage caused by storms, fallen trees, fire, vandalism, or vehicle impact. Because decks are commonly treated as part of the home’s structure or an attached feature, insurance may contribute to repair or replacement costs after the deductible. However, damage caused by aging materials or lack of maintenance is typically excluded. Rotting boards, loose railings, worn fasteners, or moisture damage are generally viewed as maintenance responsibilities. If you’re unsure about your coverage, a written inspection can help when discussing the damage with your insurance provider. Notes about damaged boards, loose railings, or affected framing can help determine whether deck repair or deck replacement may be needed.

  • Replacing a board is one part of deck repair. The structure below the surface boards also matters. Framing, ledger boards, and support posts support the deck and require correct installation. Poorly installed fasteners or supports can cause long term deck problems. Since decks connect to the home structure, repairs near ledger boards or flashing can allow water intrusion and lead to rot behind siding. Surface damage often hides deeper issues. Soft decking can indicate moisture in the joists below. Replacing boards without inspecting the framing leaves potential structural weakness in place. Deck repair handled by a professional typically includes reviewing the structure, securing hardware, and following code guidelines. Working with a qualified deck repair handyman helps address structural concerns and extend the life of the deck.

  • Deck contractors can operate under different business models. Some work independently, some rely on rotating crews, and some focus mainly on new construction projects. The experience homeowners receive can vary depending on how each company schedules work and assigns projects. Mr. Handyman provides deck repair, deck restoration, deck installation, and deck replacement through a locally owned and operated business that is licensed and insured. Homeowners work with highly-trained service professionals who support multiple home improvement needs. Organized scheduling and clear communication guide the process. Homeowners in North Bethesda work with a local Mr. Handyman service team. Service professionals arrive in uniform and branded vehicles and follow a structured service process. Projects are scheduled through an organized system that supports consistent planning and communication. Established procedures guide how deck repair services are evaluated and completed. Projects are completed within the service standards associated with the Done Right Promise®. Professional procedures and responsive customer support a consistent service experience. Homeowners receive help from local service professionals backed by a recognized national brand.

  • Wood decks often need refinishing every few years to maintain their condition. Sun exposure and moisture slowly degrade protective sealants. Without that protection, boards absorb water more easily and begin to show cracking, warping, or surface damage. Regular deck inspections help locate early damage. Loose fasteners, cracked boards, and small soft areas can usually be repaired before structural problems develop. Climate exposure can shorten the life of deck sealants and finishes. Extreme weather gradually breaks down protective coatings. Routine upkeep coordinated with a local deck builder in North Bethesda helps extend the life of decking materials and structural components.
