From start to finish, this was a great experience. Called for a quote, got an immediate reply and a very fast visit to provide an estimate. Follow up calls were no-pressure, courteous and helpful. When we decided to have the work done, it was easily scheduled, we received a reminder call from Bob of the date and time of the appointments to begin and complete the work. Patrick arrived when we expected him, was courteous, professional, and terrific at what he did, which was repair plaster damage from an exterior ice dam problem. He was efficient, cleaned up, and did a superb job. Could not be happier with his work, or with the company and its efficiency and courtesy.

Very professional and follow up is excellent. Scheduler gave me great information on what I needed to check to ensure that I purchased the right lockset. Workmen are always professional, prompt, nice, and do an excellent job. I just wish I had larger or more projects at one time to bring down the hourly rate a little bit, but the higher cost is often worth it to me because I need to get these things done.

My Handyman was Jason Brown. From the time I made the appointment (which they were able to schedule in a day) to the time Jason completed the job, I have never been so impressed and thoroughly satisfied. They are a great team. Jason put together an electric fireplace tv stand. It looks beautiful and he even took time to help place the stand and help with all the tv wires and made sure everything worked before leaving. I will definitely be using Mr Handyman for all my work going forward. And have told all my friends Thank you Skip and the team!

Installed and painted a bilco cellar door. They did a nice job. Would certainly use them again. They absolutely stand behind their work and will do whatever it takes to make the job successful.

I had Mr Handyman come out and fix some dry-rot issues around two windows, and replace a length of fascia board under my back gutters. Took them less time than I thought, great job well worth having them. Now I feel much better about our upcoming winter weather knowing everything is fixed, sealed up and the gutters are draining properly. Very happy with the results

When I called the owner, he said he was going to send his best man and his best man did things that I wanted done which I couldn't do. His labor even though he said it was a sale was $320 for four hours. I didn't compare the price with anybody else. The worker that he sent was good in everything because I had to do a little bit of everything in those four hours. For instance, like a lock on my old closet door. All the people didn’t know what to do and they thought I had to have a new door. He said he knew what was needed. While he was doing the other work, my daughter ran down to a store and got the lock that he said was needed. Nothing has gone wrong with the work that he did do and I was very satisfied with the work. Most people charge just for coming out to give us an estimate and things like that but he didn’t do that. He told me the next time I called him his labor price would be less. He said what he told me was the sale price and he also told me what his regular price was for four hours. His regular price was $160 for the first hour and after that he said he charged by the half hour and I think he said it was $50. To me that was kind of high. The quality of his work has been good so far. Nothing has gone wrong. I would grade the particular guy who came out an ‘A’ because he did more than one work and he told me he was sending me his best worker. He was on time. He said he would be here at 9:30 and he was here exactly at 9:30. Another thing that I liked about the guy that did the work was that he worked fast, did a neat job and cleaned behind himself. Some people work fast and sloppy but he was not. He was professional and was like Jack of all trades. I plan to use them again because there are some more things that need to be done.

Called them on a Wednesday and Rick was at my house the next morning fixing the gutters. He was professional and did a great job. A piece of one of the gutters was actually stuck down in the drain and Rick was able to fish it out with a make shift hook. I will definitely have them back for any job we need done.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for over 25 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about deck repair and deck installation.

  • Repair costs are determined by the size of the deck, the materials used, and how much damage needs to be addressed. Simple repairs like replacing boards or tightening railings are typically less involved than structural deck restoration. Repair costs rise when damage reaches the framing or support posts. Conditions such as rot, water damage, or shifting footings often require larger deck repair or partial replacement. Small repairs that keep returning may mean the framing has been affected by moisture. Boards may soften again and railings may loosen over time. In these cases surface level deck repair may not resolve the root cause. The best way to understand deck repair costs is through a thorough project evaluation. A local deck builder in Bridgeport can review the condition of your deck, discuss repair or replacement options, and explain the scope of work.

  • Homeowners insurance may help cover deck repair, but coverage depends on the cause of the damage rather than simply needing repairs. Most policies cover deck damage caused by sudden, accidental events such as storms, fallen trees, fire, vandalism, or vehicle impact. Because decks are often considered part of the home’s structure or an attached feature, insurance may help pay for repairs or replacement after the deductible. Damage caused by normal wear and tear or poor maintenance is usually not covered. Issues such as rotting deck boards, loose railings, aging hardware, or long-term moisture damage are typically considered homeowner maintenance responsibilities. If you’re unsure about coverage, obtaining a written inspection can help when speaking with your insurance provider. Documentation about damaged boards, loose railings, or structural framing can clarify whether deck repair or deck replacement may be necessary.

  • Many homeowners start with a single board replacement. Deck repair usually involves more than surface boards. Framing, ledger boards, and support posts support the structure and require proper installation. Incorrect fastening or uneven supports can affect the structure of the deck. Decks connect directly to the home structure. Repairs near ledger boards or flashing can allow water intrusion if they are not installed correctly. Damage on the surface of a deck may hide problems underneath. Soft decking can suggest moisture in the joists below. Replacing boards without inspecting the framing may leave structural issues in place. Deck repair completed by a professional usually begins with a structural review and proper hardware installation. Following code requirements helps address structural concerns and support the long term condition of the deck.

  • Deck contractors may use different staffing and scheduling approaches. Some work independently while others rotate crews across projects or focus on new construction. These differences can affect how deck repair projects are completed. Mr. Handyman delivers deck repair, deck restoration, deck installation, and deck replacement through a locally owned, licensed and insured operation. Homeowners connect with a team of service professionals who support multiple projects throughout the home. Clear scheduling and communication guide each visit. A local Mr. Handyman team serves homeowners across Bridgeport. Service professionals arrive in uniform and branded vehicles and follow an established service process. Work is organized through a structured scheduling system. Defined procedures guide how deck repair services are planned and completed for each home. Every project is backed by the Done Right Promise®. Defined service standards, professional accountability, and responsive customer support provide an added layer of confidence. Homeowners receive support from a recognized national brand while working with a local team focused on quality deck repair results.

  • Sun exposure and moisture slowly degrade deck sealants. Many wood decks require refinishing every two to three years to maintain protection. When the sealant breaks down, boards become more vulnerable to cracking and water damage. Annual inspections help identify small problems before they spread. Loose hardware, minor cracking, or early soft spots can often be corrected through focused deck repair. Weather exposure plays a major role in deck maintenance timing. Extreme weather can shorten the lifespan of protective coatings. Planning routine maintenance with a local deck builder in Bridgeport can help homeowners manage refinishing and repair before major deterioration develops.
