We had a myriad of jobs, and the time and cost where exactly as they quoted. From mounting a TV, to instlaling an under counter recycling draw and the smaller jobs made our house feel more like a home. 100% reccomend this service. Brian S. Stamford

As the weather got colder, it was apparent that our house was losing heat left and right. We called Mr. Handyman and asked for an energy audit. Skip and Michelle immediately got back in touch with me, and Michelle took us through the process. After the audit, she pointed out many things about our place that we just had no idea about (we had just bought our place and the inspection person only pointed out things that he could see, not necessarily everything about the house). They gave us a detailed proposal with itemized prices. Basically, we had to insulate our kitchen completely (3 walls, and subfloor), because it was a new addition, and had no insulation whatsoever. In addition, we had to put down a whole new insulation in our attic, build an attic box, and perform other tasks. We were immediately comfortable with their level of service and contact. We asked them to begin the work. They came when they were supposed to. They cleaned up after themselves. When we had small issues with this or that, they got back to us within a day, and fixed the issues within two days. Overall, the quality was excellent, the price was fair and the responsiveness and attention to detail was excellent. The question is, why can't every service provider be like Mr. Handyman? Honestly, moving to New Canaan, I am severely underwhelmed by the responsiveness and attention to detail from many, many other service providers (especially the electricians and some of the landscaping companies). I wish Mr. Handyman did more things, because then I wouldn't have to call anyone else when I need to get things done.

They're really polite, come out right away, and do good work for a competitive price.

  • Mary S.

The service technician was very professional, and courteous.I feel the job was done very well , neatly, and efficiently. I don't mind paying a slightly higher price if I have confidence it was done well. I would use their services again.

Excellent work and within the quote given over the phone. I like that they charge for their work based on time and materials so it is transparent. Steve was the person who did the work and I will request him for our next project. Steve removed an outdated wood panel and mantel piece and installed drywall ready to paint. He also installed the baseboards and trim around the fireplace. We will finish painting ourselves. Below is a before and after picture

Representative was on time, professional and very personable. The work was done properly and promptly. Very happy with the experience overall and will surely use your services again. Thank you!

Mike is always on time. The great thing about Mr. Handyman is that they have a variety of people to do whatever needs to be done. The ceiling fan in my bathroom had died and he replaced this with a new fan which I supplied. The new fan was slightly bigger than my old one, but he made it fit and he made it work properly. I will continue to use Mr. Handyman for everything that I can't do myself.

  • Brianna S.

The team was professional and responsive. They were able to install our dryer vent the next day. They were clear with their pricing structure and expectations. I will use them again for more jobs at my home.

Frequently Asked Questions About Deck Repair

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for over 25 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about deck repair and deck installation.

  • Repair costs are determined by the size of the deck, the materials used, and how much damage needs to be addressed. Simple repairs like replacing boards or tightening railings are typically less involved than structural deck restoration. Repair costs rise when damage reaches the framing or support posts. Conditions such as rot, water damage, or shifting footings often require larger deck repair or partial replacement. Small repairs that keep returning may mean the framing has been affected by moisture. Boards may soften again and railings may loosen over time. In these cases surface level deck repair may not resolve the root cause. The best way to understand deck repair costs is through a thorough project evaluation. A local deck builder in Washington can review the condition of your deck, discuss repair or replacement options, and explain the scope of work.

  • Homeowners insurance may help cover deck repair, but coverage depends on the cause of the damage rather than simply needing repairs. Most policies cover deck damage caused by sudden, accidental events such as storms, fallen trees, fire, vandalism, or vehicle impact. Because decks are often considered part of the home’s structure or an attached feature, insurance may help pay for repairs or replacement after the deductible. Damage caused by normal wear and tear or poor maintenance is usually not covered. Issues such as rotting deck boards, loose railings, aging hardware, or long-term moisture damage are typically considered homeowner maintenance responsibilities. If you’re unsure about coverage, obtaining a written inspection can help when speaking with your insurance provider. Documentation about damaged boards, loose railings, or structural framing can clarify whether deck repair or deck replacement may be necessary.

  • Many homeowners start with a single board replacement. Deck repair usually involves more than surface boards. Framing, ledger boards, and support posts support the structure and require proper installation. Incorrect fastening or uneven supports can affect the structure of the deck. Decks connect directly to the home structure. Repairs near ledger boards or flashing can allow water intrusion if they are not installed correctly. Damage on the surface of a deck may hide problems underneath. Soft decking can suggest moisture in the joists below. Replacing boards without inspecting the framing may leave structural issues in place. Deck repair completed by a professional usually begins with a structural review and proper hardware installation. Following code requirements helps address structural concerns and support the long term condition of the deck.

  • Deck contractors may use different staffing and scheduling approaches. Some work independently while others rotate crews across projects or focus on new construction. These differences can affect how deck repair projects are completed. Mr. Handyman delivers deck repair, deck restoration, deck installation, and deck replacement through a locally owned, licensed and insured operation. Homeowners connect with a team of service professionals who support multiple projects throughout the home. Clear scheduling and communication guide each visit. A local Mr. Handyman team serves homeowners across Washington. Service professionals arrive in uniform and branded vehicles and follow an established service process. Work is organized through a structured scheduling system. Defined procedures guide how deck repair services are planned and completed for each home. Every project is backed by the Done Right Promise®. Defined service standards, professional accountability, and responsive customer support provide an added layer of confidence. Homeowners receive support from a recognized national brand while working with a local team focused on quality deck repair results.

  • Sun exposure and moisture slowly degrade deck sealants. Many wood decks require refinishing every two to three years to maintain protection. When the sealant breaks down, boards become more vulnerable to cracking and water damage. Annual inspections help identify small problems before they spread. Loose hardware, minor cracking, or early soft spots can often be corrected through focused deck repair. Weather exposure plays a major role in deck maintenance timing. Extreme weather can shorten the lifespan of protective coatings. Planning routine maintenance with a local deck builder in Washington can help homeowners manage refinishing and repair before major deterioration develops.
