It went well. They did tell us what they were doing and when they would be doing it. They were very prompt with their time frames. We do plan on using them again the near future.

Mr. Handyman installed a window in my kitchen that had gotten moisture between the panes. I called the big name window installers, but they wouldn’t install only one window. The contractor showed up on time and did a great job installing the window. I am very happy with this service and will contact them in the future for any other jobs I need done.

Tony D came out to our home to help us with what we both assumed would be a simple install of a recessed outlet behind our mounted TV so we could run the wires behind the wall. Well, given the age of our home and attic/coax/wiring set up, this turned out to be a 5 hour job and lots of hiccups and surprises along the way. Tony was amazing. Not once was the job too annoying, too difficult or daunting. He made everything work and the end result was achieved. He was a joy to talk to and explained a lot of things about our home that I wouldn't have known otherwise. He took time and care with his work, making sure everything was clean when he left and we're happy knowing the job was done well. I am so glad we called Mr. Handyman and got Tony, and I would use Mr. Handyman again but ONLY if Tony were our technician. The reason I marked that I'm unlikely to use Mr. Handyman again in the future is because of the price. They are very very expensive. $268 for the first 2 hours, $106.00 an hour after that and their materials costs are way inflated. Our job was thought to be simple, but since it was 5.5 hours + materials, it wound up being way more expensive than we ever imagined. No fault to Tony, he worked as quickly as he could given the challenges faced. I would recommend that if you use Mr. Handyman it be for very straightforward jobs, ones that you know will only be an hour or two, and you buy all materials yourself ahead of time (We had no idea what we'd need, so that was our ignorance). I have no problem paying for good service and good quality, but Mr. Handyman needs to be a little more competitive with their pricing if they want repeat business from us (I know I'm one customer so it probably won't matter, but I feel its worth mentioning!).

Just before Hurricane Sandy, a woodpecker pecked a fairly large hole in the column to the right of our front door. Joe came out on November 6th to take a look and see what could be done. Our options were to fill the hole, or to replace the columns entirely. We decided to order new columns and have them installed, but as a temporary measure he filled and patched the hole to make it look better until the column could be replaced. After a couple of delays, including bad weather, holiday travel and the supplier mistakenly sending the wrong size columns, the correct materials arrived and Joe came out on January 8th to install them. He was always extremely punctual, personable, and professional, and worked very neatly. He did a beautiful job and our front entryway looks better than new now! We even got a discount to help make up for the delays in completing the work. We are very pleased and will continue to call Mr. Handyman for these types of projects.

Frequently Asked Questions About Drywall Repair & Drywall Installation in Mount Vernon, VA

Mr. Handyman has been helping homeowners and businesses repair, maintain, and enhance their spaces for 30 years! We are the one-stop solution for everything on your to-do list. This includes answering your questions about home and business repairs, maintenance, and improvements. Here are answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about drywall repair and drywall installation.

  • If you’re seeing visible wall damage like cracks, holes, or recurring nail pops, it’s likely time for drywall repair. Hairline cracks from settling are common, but widening gaps or spreading damage shouldn’t be ignored. Small punctures can often be resolved with drywall hole repair, while larger sections may need professional drywall service to restore the wall properly. Brown or yellow water marks, bubbling finishes, and soft drywall surfaces are strong indicators that professional drywall service is needed. Simply covering the damage won’t address the underlying problem. Effective drywall repair involves removing compromised materials and ensuring the area is fully dry before refinishing. Bulging panels, visible tape lines, or rough transitions between drywall sheets are signs of compromised drywall finishing. Improper drywall installation or long-term humidity exposure can contribute to the problem. Drywall patching and refinishing correct the surface and prevent recurring damage. If the problem goes beyond a simple patch, such as ceiling damage, repeated water exposure, or multiple compromised areas, professional drywall service is the safest option. Proper drywall repair restores stability, matches surrounding texture, and reduces the risk of future damage.

  • Recurring drywall cracks and holes usually indicate that the original drywall repair addressed only the surface damage. Basic drywall patching may hide the issue temporarily, but deeper problems often cause it to return. Structural movement and normal home settling are common causes. As framing shifts, drywall seams and fasteners are stressed, causing cracks to reopen. Poor drywall installation or improper drywall finishing, such as loose panels or weak joint tape, can also lead to recurring seam separation. Water intrusion and humidity swings may further weaken the drywall. Moisture causes materials to expand and contract, compromising joints and surfaces. Professional drywall repair should always include resolving the moisture source first. Repeated impact in active areas may also cause damage to return, especially if the hole in wall repair was only cosmetic. A handyman for drywall can reinforce the section for a more durable solution.

  • Small scale drywall repair projects are typically completed through drywall patching, reinforcing and refinishing the affected area. Unlike patching, drywall installation requires securing new panels, taping seams, and completing drywall finishing across larger sections for consistent results. Repeated repairs in the same location can signal deeper structural concerns that require replacing a section rather than patching again. Proper assessment prevents unnecessary drywall installation while ensuring that minor drywall repair is not used where broader replacement is required.

  • Before drywall repair begins, relocate nearby décor and furniture to protect your belongings and provide proper access for drywall installation and finishing. To reduce post-project cleanup, protect nearby areas before drywall repair or drywall installation. Confirm how sanding dust will be contained and removed. Confirming that moisture concerns are resolved before drywall repair or drywall finishing begins supports stronger and more durable results. Requesting an estimate allows a service professional to evaluate the affected area, confirm whether drywall repair, drywall patching, or drywall installation is required, and outline the full scope of work. During the estimate, you can ask about timeline, drying time between coats of compound, and what to expect during drywall finishing. Clear communication upfront helps you prepare your home properly and move forward with confidence.

  • Correct drywall finishing requires attention to detail and proper materials. Professional drywall repair reduces the risk of uneven textures or repeat repairs. Extensive drywall hole repair or partial drywall installation demands accurate measurement, secure fastening, and consistent drywall finishing to prevent visible seams. Rather than focusing only on surface drywall patching, service professionals evaluate the surrounding structure to determine if drywall installation or reinforcement is needed. Reviewing your drywall installation or drywall repair needs during an estimate supports better planning and smoother execution.

  • When evaluating drywall contractors in Mount Vernon, review their experience with drywall repair, drywall finishing, drywall installation, and repairing holes in drywall. A knowledgeable team should clearly outline whether drywall patching or replacing panels is recommended. Detailed estimates from drywall contractors help homeowners understand the full drywall repair or drywall installation process in advance. Choosing a locally owned drywall service promotes accountability and continuity throughout drywall repair. Choosing Mr. Handyman means your drywall installation and drywall repair are handled by employed service professionals who follow defined processes.
